Yves Tanguy (1900-1955),
French-American painter, born in Paris and self-trained
(autodidact). In 1925 he became one of the surrealists. Tanguy's
paintings of strange, fantastic bones and amoebalike shapes,
arranged in flat, lifeless, and imaginary landscapes, quickly won
recognition. His figures were smoothly painted in clear colors
with painstaking detail. He moved to the United States in 1939
and later became a U.S. citizen.
René Magritte (1898-1967), Belgian surrealist painter, prime exponent of the style of painting known as magic realism. Born in Lessines, Magritte had already begun to paint in his own distinct style by the time of his first solo exhibition in 1927. He is noted for works that contain an extraordinary juxtaposition of ordinary objects or an unusual context that gives new meaning to familiar things.
HOPI
If you went straight through the Hopi Reservation to the other side of the world, you would come out in Tibet. The Tibetan word for sun is the Hopi word for moon, and the Hopi word for sun is the Tibetan word for moon.

The Elders of the Native American Hopi nation say that the Earth's surface is like the back of a spotted fawn. As the fawn grows, the spots move and change number. Similarly, every time the Earth Mother sings a new song or enters a new vibrational shift, Her power centers also change to a new configuration, interconnected by a more complex sacred geometry.

The Hopi also have prophesied that "Turtle Island could turn over two or three times and the oceans could join hands and meet the sky." This seems to be a prophecy of a "pole shift" -- a flipping, of the planet on its axis. The Hopi call this imminent condition -- and that of society today -- "Koyaanisqatsi", which means "world out of balance...a state of life that calls for another way. "

The southwest's most intriguing natives, the
Hopi, have always claimed that their sipapu (place of emergence
from the underworld) is in the Grand Canyon. They say their
ancestors went underground to live with "the ant
people" when the great flood wiped out the last world.
Later, they emerged through the sipapu to begin their lives and
migrations in the present world. The many circular kivas
found in Anasazi ruins are said to be symbolic of this emergence,
i.e. underground ceremonial chambers with a roof entrance/exit,
still called the sipapu.

On land, direct physical connections become essential." Water is no longer ambient, the medium in which life is immersed, but instead an irrigation system which connects and passes through all land life. Now the "biota has had to find ways to carry the sea within it and, moreover, to construct watery conduits from 'node' to 'node.'" Land life is literally pleated and plied, complex It has effectively "taken the sea beyond the sea and folded it back inside of itself," aseembling itself as a network of molecular arteries and veins, a hydraulic system keeping life afloat. "Acting over evolutionary time as a rising tide, the land biota literally carries the sea and its distinctive solutes over the surface of the land" forming a "terrestrial sea" of "countless and interconnected conduits" which "expands with every increase in the volume of tissues and sap and lymph of the creatures that constitute it."
"The land biota represents not simply life from the sea, but a variation of the sea itself," and living, land-life fluids "are not a mere remnant or analog of the sea; they are actually a new type of sea or marine environment: Hypersea." This continuity of ocean and land is supported by the fuzzy zones between plants and less complex forms of life: bacteria, algae, fungi, lichens.
