Nonduality Highlights: Issue #3709, Monday, November 9, 2009, Editor: Mark

Forgetting your Self is the greatest injury; all the calamities flow from it. Take care of the most important, the lesser will take care of itself. You do not tidy up a dark room. You open the windows first. Letting in the light makes everything easy. So, let us wait with improving others until we have seen ourselves as we are - and have changed. There is no need to turn around and round in endless questioning; find yourself and everything will fall into its proper place.

- Nisargadatta Maharaj, posted to ANetofJewels

Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.

- Aldous Huxley, posted to Distillation

We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.

- The Talmud, posted to Distillation

We should be brave to open our doors to receive all available light from outside. Let rays of light come in, in sharp-driving showers from the four quarters of the earth.

- Swami Vivekananda, posted to AlongTheWay

In consequence of a fractured leg,
God bestows a wing.
Likewise, from the depths of the pit,
He opens a door of escape.
God said, "Don't consider whether
you're up a tree or in a hole:
Consider Me, for I am the key of the way.

- Rumi, Mathnawi III, 4808-4809, version by Camille and Kabir Helminski, from Rumi: Jewels of Remembrance, posted to Sunlight

Love God for something other than Him, in order
to be at all time part of His bounty;

O love God for Himself, for nothing else than Himself,
for fear of being estranged from Him.

Both quests and searches come from that same Source
where His heart ravishes hearts.

- Rumi,Mathnawi III, 4598-4600, translated by Muriel Maufroy, from Breathing Truth - Quotations from Jalaluddin Rumi, posted to Sunlight

mind finds a path
to struggle along
never reaching the goal
heart knows it already rests
in the path of something wonderful
it can not escape

     mind seeks to hold onto
     a still point
     of final understanding
heart knows it is being held
     by an unmoving whirlwind
     that it will never comprehend

mind tries to feel safe enough
to allow love
out into the open
heart knows love is never cautious
and can not be kept secret
once all hope of refuge is abandoned

- Nirmala, from Gifts with No Giver - a love affair with truth
