Nonduality

Ramana Maharshi and J. Krishnamurti

concomitant factors in their Teachings

by Alone (Sadashivrao Raghunathrao)

commentary and excerpt

The author named on the book is called Alone. This very unusual book was published in 1972 in India by Shankaraji Narayan Publications (then owned by: Mr. N.S. Pantsachiv of Poona). It was distributed by The Dawn Horse Press (Master Adi Da's publishing house for the last 25 years), then located at 731 North La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, not far from and possibly right in Hollywood.

I purchased a copy at the Bodhi Tree Used Book Store in West Hollywood in 1993, attracted first by the title, then by the name of the author ("Alone"), then by the uncommon and evocative style of writing.

Read what Paul Reps says about another of Alone's books, The Curtain (the quotation is printed on the dust jacket of the present book and applies to it):

"Curtain raising dustlessly excellently intervally sweet world in bliss bulbs brightly exploding"

"You are unique in your style of writing AND EACH SHOULD BE BUT AINT BUT SHOULD BE"

"I like you ticket fastened in book reading it has taught me how (not) to (dis) orgazinze a work MANY, THANKS    Paaulio, hawaii 96776 reps

The book is an experience of intimacy with a writer who allows you to hear and feel the grinding of the creative machinery behind one person's feeling for (is it possible?) Being, Liberation, Aloneness. The industrial style of writing, the book design, papers, printing, binding, typography; the (only) twenty year old paper dust cover literally crumbling onto my t-shirt each time I handle the book; these qualities are in accord with the exposed writing style, which you may experience as follows:

May I tell you the greatest thing (----culmination in SPIRITUALITY)

[Though seemingly this may be simple ----- but, which has the highest potentiality ! !]

Namely: "I do not know" --------- this frame of the mind: "I do not know:" --------

And, which has its counter-part, or, what they call, the other-side-of-the-coin, is:

Let LIFE (----ENERGY or INTELLIGENCE---) protect me!

(These may not be words only:)

This is the pitch of WISDOM.

Even by 'efforting' ......... we have to arrive (so to say), only here!!

This is, what Krishnamurti calls: INNOCENCE.

Or, Raman Maharshi suggesting: ABIDANCE IN SELF, AND: This is also:

"Surrender to Almighty" or "Thy will be done" [Gopinath Kaviraj-Varanasi (INDIA)].

If this style of expression sounds refreshing to you -- it is refreshing -- try to find a copy. The writing is not always easy to follow, but it is like being in a room with a man whose love and understanding you feel silently and when he speaks you do not understand every word or sentence and yet you already do. Add this book, if you can find it, to your library.

Because of the literary style, I would like to emphasize that the material excerpted is just as it appears on pages 195 - 197 of the book.

The "Heart"

(-------ALONE)

In continuation of my article in the Mountain Path titled as

                                                                      "Lucia --------------------                                       __________________________________________________________________

                                           ----------- an embodiment of Bhagawan"

___________________________________________________________________

One day.............(now, I remember the exact day: it was Kartiki Paurnima -------- I will look to the English date also --------............. when there is a function also on Arunachal-mountain at Tiruvannamalai (though I am in Poona) --------- as this writing is close to the incident, so I remember the exact date.

I was rather awake on my bed (sofa-cum-bed)............ the time being 4 a.m. (when I afterwards looked in the watch)...........

When thus naturally I was awake............ [I was not aware at that moment, that it is Kartiki Paurnima]........... I felt .............some 'throbbing' was getting spread -- spreading -- (so to say), all around me -- into the whole world -- all around about me and it is spreading -- even in the whole universe --

............some [what word shall I use?] .............some throbbing -------- some 'heaving' -- like ............ all over outside [--------- this is not a visual sight I saw --------]

.............and, inside me, the same sort of thing, at my right side heart

[where previously I have "experiencing"]

.............. This time, it was on both regions (so to say) simultaneously

.............. throbbing inside me at that particular spot (..............now it is in my entire body) ............. already it is spreading into my entire ---- really entire -----body .......... and (the same feeling)

[as if the universe is also my body].............also into all round ------- into the entire ------- universe

(----------- how can I express this?--)

At the same time ---- I mean, simultaneously ------- this was 'going on'............

[Again also, excuse me for bringing-in the personal element ........... when I make fair the article ............ in-about mid-night ........... after some lapse of days perhaps, something of the same 'feeling' I am "experiencing" now, also]

Please .............. to continue the article ...............

This was (rather, is) not even 'simultaneously'.......... but, the whole is throbbing ............. my body is universe ..............

[Kindly, ................ bear interruption a little: "verbalization" and "experiencing" is going on side by side] ........... or, the universe is my body .......... ---------- I don't know what is what -------- ............ a certain cool vibrating -- throbbing -- no burden as such, no violent (so to say), feeling is it .............

a certain feeling of love (also) is in it ............ it may be L O V E.

Those who are familiar with Ramana's teachings of the Heart (expanded and globally introduced by Master Adi Da as The Way of the Heart) will recognize the significance of the above passage and understand why The Dawn Horse Press would have an interest in distributing this title. The Umbada Gita includes mention of The Heart in Chapter 3.
